Marcelo broke down in tears during an emotional farewell to Real Madrid on Monday afternoon.
The Brazilian left-back joined Los Blancos in 2007.
In his 15-year stint, Marcelo played 546 games and scored 38 goals.
He established himself as the most decorated footballer in the club’s history as he won 25 trophies.
He gave an emotional speech at his farewell presentation.
He said, per Marca: “Thanks to my teammates, coaches. But above all to the kit men, to the security, to the people who work behind the scenes and have dirty work. I want to highlight their work, because I only dedicate myself to playing and I always had everything ready. I want to thank my wife, because she has always been by my side since I started playing football. If I am what I am today, it is because of you Clarice.
“When I left Brazil I had in mind to play the Champions League. And today I leave here being the player with the most titles in the history of the biggest club in the world”.
Marcelo even made Raul well up after an emotional tribute to the Spanish legend.
He continued: “I am going to tell something that I have never told. But I want to thank Raúl, who is sitting there. You helped me a lot when I arrived and when my son Enzo was born, I will never forget that you gave me a gift, with many things for the baby, and you gave me a lot of advice.
“You were always very caring, you and your family, and I will never forget that and I always wanted to follow your example.”
Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s president, was full of praise for the departing Brazilian.
“It’s going to be a day full of emotions. We want to pay a passionate tribute to our great captain, the boy who became a man at Real Madrid. We’re talking about a legend, the player with the most titles in Real Madrid’s history. We’re talking about Marcelo. Dear Marcelo, you have fulfilled all dreams. You have won absolutely everything. A total of 25 titles. You are without a doubt one of the best full-backs in the history of world football. You are an unrepeatable player. Your fantasy and happiness have been key for the conquest of the titles.
“You told us on the day of the celebration that it was a happy day. You should feel proud of everything your loved ones have been able to enjoy. I want to have a few words of gratitude for your whole family. Also for your dear grandfather Pedro, who took you to train.”
Marcelo is now 34 years old. Whether he decides to continue playing remains to be seen.
