Real reason we stopped expensive bride price, burial in Idoma land – Monarch

The traditional ruler of Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State, HRH Emmanuel Ujah Odeh (Ad’Ogbadibo) has explained why the Idoma Traditional Area Council decided to stop the culture of expensive bride price and burial rites in Idoma land.

Recall that the council recently unified and fixed the bride price at N50,000.

This N50,000 is expected to cover the bride price and other expenses, including entertainment.

Explaining the reason behind the decision, the monarch, in an interview with IDOMA VOICE, said people are scared of getting married in Ogbadibo due to their exurbitant bride price.
He said even burying a loved one in Ogbadibo is a big deal because of the unnecessary demands from the villages.

He said, “If you marry from Ogbadibo (Otukpa/Orokam/Owukpa) or do a burial there, you will regret because they will force you to borrow, which is too bad.”
