Real reason why Gov. Ortom dethroned 3 traditional rulers in Benue

The Benue State Security Council presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom has dethroned three traditional rulers in Ushongo and Gwer East local government areas of the state.

The decision was taken after a painstaking investigation into the matter by the governor and other major stakeholders over their active roles in the violent communal skirmishes that led to the killing of persons and property worth millions of naira being destroyed.

Governor Ortom, who briefed journalists on the matter after an expanded meeting of the council, named the chiefs as: Chief Peter Ikyum of Ishough and Chief Angegher Kuhe of Mbasombo both from Gwer East Local Government Area as well as a kindred head of Ishuwav, Chief Iorer Gumba in Utange ward of Ushongo Local Government.

He immediately constituted a high powered panel, headed by the Tor Kwande, Chief Ambrose Iyortyer and supported by Tor Sankera, Chief Abu King Shuluwa as well as second class chiefs from Ushongo, Buruku, Mbakor and the Secretary, Tiv Traditional Council, to look into the remote and immediate causes of the clashes between Mbasombo and Ishough districts.

The Security Council, Ortom said also asked paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse to set up a committee to probe the veracity or otherwise of the allegations leveled against the suspended kindred head of Ishuav and recommend appropriate sanctions.
