Redeemer’s University reacts to JAMB’s suspension of law programme for 2025/2026

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun, has provided clarification on the suspension of its law programme for the 2025/2026 academic session by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Adetunji Adeleye, the university explained that the suspension was a penalty from the Council for Legal Education (CLE) for initially launching the programme in 2017 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), without CLE’s approval.

The statement emphasized that Redeemer’s University currently holds full accreditation from both the NUC and CLE to run its undergraduate law programme. However, the one-year suspension will not impact current students enrolled in the law programme.

“Redeemer’s University holds all regulatory bodies in high regard and will comply with the penalty by refraining from offering admission into the law programme for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement read. It further encouraged prospective students to apply to other accredited programmes offered by the university.

On Thursday, JAMB announced the suspension of admissions for law programmes at eight universities, following the CLE’s suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes for the 2025/2026 session due to regulatory violations.

The universities affected by the suspension include: Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemer’s University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil.
