Reece James signs five-year contract at Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed that Reece James has signed a new 5 year contract with the club, following days of rumours that the deal was almost done.

The defender is one of the few truly world class players in this current squad, with only a couple of right backs in the world able to say they’re at his level.

A long piece on the website is full of praise from the owners and quotes from James about how happy he is to be staying at the club. The whole thing gives us a nice warm buzz, at a time when we really need it.

“I am over the moon with my new contract and I’m thankful for the fans, the new ownership and everyone involved in the club. I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies,” the full back said.

It had initially been reported that James’ deal would be a 6 year deal with a one year option, but it appears it’s actually 5 years with a one year option.

Either way, we can finally relax and start looking forward to many more years of him at Stamford Bridge. He’s already made 128 appearances for us in his three full seasons, and we hope to see hundreds more.
