Chicago State University Registrar, Caleb Westberg, testified under oath on Tuesday, confirming that President Bola Tinubu attended and graduated from the institution in 1979. Westberg also acknowledged that the admission letter issued to the Nigerian President clearly indicated that he was a male and attended the school between 1977 and 1979.
During the deposition, Westberg stated, “There were materials in Mr. Tinubu’s records that show he was a male in the application to CSU. Mr. Tinubu identified himself as a male. His letter of admission identified him as a male. It says: ‘Dear Mr. Tinubu.’”
These testimonies were provided in a deposition at the Office of Angela Liu, the legal counsel to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in Chicago, United States.
Liu was joined by five lawyers from her firm in the legal proceedings via Zoom, while the representation for CSU was handled by Michael Hayes. President Tinubu was represented by counsel Victor P. Henderson and Oluwole Afolabi.
Continuing with his testimony, Westberg informed the court that the institution received numerous inquiries daily from people seeking confirmation that the president had attended the university. He emphasized that they believe the Bola Tinubu who attended CSU is the same person who is currently the president of Nigeria, based on the matching of records in the file against the provided information.
He clarified, “Tinubu applied to the university as a male, and a letter of admission was issued to a male.”
Additionally, Westberg mentioned that the university possesses diplomas that students didn’t collect, including one for Mr. Enahoro-Ebah because Mr. Tinubu did not pick it up. However, he clarified that the diploma submitted to INEC was not in their possession since President Tinubu had already collected it.
