Reps seat: INEC trying to frustrate our appeal – Labour Party raises alarm

The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of collaborating with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to unseat Hon. Amobi Ogah, the member representing the Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State in the House of Representatives. Ogah had been declared the winner of the February 25 election but was later sacked by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia.

In an open letter to INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, issued by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, it was revealed that a courtroom altercation had occurred following the alleged abrupt decision by INEC to change its legal representation during the hearing of Ogah’s appeal. While the LP opposed this sudden change, some APC supporters and a faction of the LP supported the move, leading to the adjournment of the hearing.

The LP has expressed concerns about the involvement of expelled members of the party and APC leaders in the legal process, suggesting an attempt to influence the outcome of the case.

The party has called on INEC to investigate the situation and take necessary actions to ensure that the legal proceedings are conducted fairly and without undue interference.

Hon. Amobi Ogah’s appeal to the Appellate Court seeks to challenge the decision of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had previously nullified his election victory
