Residents flee Imo community as soldiers set houses, shops, others on fire

There is currently tension in Awomama, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.

This is as a result of the killing of a soldier by gunmen at Ishieke junction in the area.

Few hours after the incident, some soldiers regrouped, stormed the town and allegedly burnt a hotel, cars, houses and seven shops.

A video, which surfaced online, showed the cars and building in flames while women and children packed their belongings and fled.

The spokesperson for the 34 Artillery Brigade Command, Owerri, Capt. Joseph Akuboh, could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.
