Residents shocked as python is killed in Dolphin Estate

Residents of Dolphin Estate, Lagos State’s  were taken by surprise when a python was discovered and subsequently eliminated in the area.

This incident came to light through a post shared on Monday by a user identified as #Realolaudah, who highlighted the bewilderment and fear that gripped the community following the python’s discovery.

The post raised numerous questions and concerns, as well as a sense of unease and fear among some residents. The sheer size of the python added to the astonishment.

Further investigation revealed an intriguing narrative behind the python’s presence. The property in question belongs to a well-known young man, although he was not present at the time. However, his driver was on-site and resided in the BQ (boys’ quarters).

Adjacent to this particular property is a residence where the owners keep several pet dogs. Over time, these dog owners had noticed a peculiar pattern: when their dogs gave birth, some of the puppies mysteriously vanished without a trace. Out of eight puppies, only four would remain.

Behind these rows of houses in the estate lies the SSS Quarters, characterized by extensive grounds, bushes, and a canal.

The python had made its way into the driver’s BQ, where a weakened ceiling allowed it to fall. Upon landing, the python immediately coiled up and positioned itself to attack, causing alarm among the residents.

The property owner was alerted to the presence of the threatening snake in his house, and a call was made to a friend residing in Parkview Estate, who possessed a licensed shotgun. This friend promptly arrived from Parkview and shot and killed the snake.

Additionally, there were reports of several missing cats that used to wander in ceilings. The prevailing hypothesis is that the snake had been preying on both the cats and the dog puppies.

The snake’s intended destination was believed to be the neighboring house where the puppies were kept.

This incident serves as a lesson, drawing attention to the fact that the houses in the estate had remained unoccupied for an extended period, causing the compounds to become overgrown with shrubs, creating a forest-like environment that could harbor reptiles like this python. The post underscores the importance of environmental care and awareness.
