REVEALED! How Ortom reportedly sold portion of land to Fulani Herdsmen in Agatu

By Asawa Joseph

Reasons have been advanced that governor Ortom who has penchant interest in grasping land for his Oracle business farm located on the border corridors of Benue and Nasarawa initiated sales of Agatu land to President Buhari’s kinsmen for selfish interest not necessary communal interest.

The inside story of the Government House Nasarawa state is that, the Benue State governor has strike a deal with the herdsmen in search of his second term from the APC led Fulani administration using Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state.
This the very Ortom who had on 18th November, 2016 (just two months ago), deceitfully as usual, proclaimed “his government would not concede any part of its land for establishment of grazing reserve for herdsmen in the state”
Dr. Ortom who spoke through his deputy, Benson Abounu, during the handing over of Daudu Shelter project for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), further said, “the law of the Northern Nigeria that demarcated 17 places for grazing routs in 1950s did not gazette any portion of land in Benue”
According to Ortom, “In the 1950s when we had those grazing routes, we had just between 45 and 59 million people in Nigeria and that the 925,000 square metres of land which made up Nigeria has not increased but the population has increased from 59 million to about 200 million today. And so how then can you have land that you will say Benue people should give away for grazing?”
But two months later, on Wednesday 18th January 2017, Samuel Ortom while trading away Agatu peoples land made an annoying statement which he was booed by victims of the Fulani herdsmen that the Agatu people should “forgive and allow the Fulanis who were born in the land to return”
He further went ahead to quote Holy scripture which he himself does not obey that “vengeance belonged to God”
But how on earth will somebody trust such a personality who derives pleasure in saying one thing and doing the direct opposite?
The question is that the Fulani herdsmen who are also in Nasarawa have not been granted indigenous status, why then should those only wandering on Benue land be given such status?
If they are indigenous as governor Ortom is suddenly advocating, where will be their council wards? And to where shall they be paying taxes?
It is however regrettable that the soul of Benue has just been traded off by the beginning with the Agatu land after which the Gwer-West, Makurdi, Guma, Logo, Buruku, Katsina-Ala and Kwande local government areas are being expected for bigger transactions with Buhari kinsmen, who are governor Ortom’s “indigenous” visitors.
