Halima Hassan, the mother of the late BBNaija star Rico Swavey, has opened up about her ongoing struggles with grief and mental health following her son’s tragic death in a car accident in 2022.
In a heartfelt conversation with Chude Jideonwo, Halima revealed that Rico’s passing has been especially challenging for her, marking the loss of her second son. She expressed a deep yearning for him to return, even if it meant he would be in a coma.
To honor her son’s memory, Halima has decorated her home with pictures of Rico and engages with them daily, sharing her thoughts and plans with him before she leaves the house.
“It wasn’t easy for me at that time; I wasn’t really myself. All I wanted was for him to come back, whether he was conscious or not,” she shared. “When he passed, I asked to be with him in that moment and told him, ‘The music you couldn’t release, I’ll help you share it. I won’t let your hard work go to waste.’”
Halima continued, “I still have Rico’s pictures all over the house. Whenever I look at them, I smile and say, ‘Rico, it’s another day for me; I’m going out today.’ I talk to his photos, sharing my plans for the day. Each morning, I pray and ask God to give me the strength to move forward in life.”
