Rivers crisis: Wike reveals what will happen if Fubara is impeached

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the impeachment of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, would not constitute a criminal offence.
Wike made this remark during a media chat on Wednesday, asserting that impeachment is a constitutional process that should proceed if the governor has committed any impeachable offence.
“If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence,” Wike said, while expressing frustration over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law.
He also criticized those in Fubara’s inner circle, cautioning that politics should not be taken lightly.
This development follows the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, demanding that Fubara represent the 2025 budget.
The ultimatum came after the Supreme Court’s ruling, delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which directed the 27 lawmakers loyal to Amaewhule to resume their legislative functions immediately.
