The Rivers State Government has taken the decision to close down the operations of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM in Port Harcourt.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the media organization reported that the State Government initiated the shutdown using contracted telecommunications engineers, accompanied by armed security personnel.
The statement indicated that the contractors disconnected the wave guard from the antenna on the mast while riggers were observed dismantling the mast. Additionally, bulldozers were deployed to demolish the Transmitter Complex at DAAR Communications PLC Broadcast Centre.
The telecommunications contractor’s representative informed the organization that they were acting on a directive from higher authorities to commence the demolition on Sunday.
It is worth noting that in March, the State government had issued a 48-hour notice to DAAR Communication Plc, explaining that the area had been designated for GRA Phase 5 Ozuoba.
