‘Romelu Lukaku’s new injury doesn’t look good’ – Roberto Martinez

Romelu Lukaku’s new injury ‘doesn’t look good’, according to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.

The striker picked up an injury during Belgium’s 4-1 defeat against Netherlands on Friday.

Lukaku’s right ankle bent awkwardly during a challenge with Netherland’s Nathan Ake, forcing him to leave the pitch in the 23rd minute.

Speaking after the game, Martinez revealed Lukaku would most likely miss Belgium’s remaining games during the current international break.

“It doesn’t look good. He twisted his ankle,” Martinez told reporters.

“We have to wait 48 hours for the MRI scan, but I would be surprised if he is still in action in the coming games. That is my feeling.”

The new injury setback comes after Lukaku’s brutal campaign at Chelsea. The striker struggled to live up to his £97.5m price tag, with a controversial interview mounting even more pressure on him at Stamford Bridge.

According to English sources, the player is keen to return to Inter. However, Chelsea would have to accept a significant financial loss if they let him leave for a cheap transfer fee.

In addition to the Nerazzurri, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also eyeing moves for Lukaku. Igniting a bidding war between the interested parties could benefit Chelsea. But these particular clubs are infamous for their vigorous scanning of the market to find bargain deals.
