Cristiano Ronaldo scored and missed a penalty as Portugal edged Denmark in a dramatic Nations League quarter-final to book their place in the semi-finals.

The tie ended 3-3 on aggregate after 90 minutes, forcing extra time, where Francisco Trincao struck immediately to put Portugal ahead, before Goncalo Ramos sealed the 5-3 aggregate win with a late goal.

Ronaldo saw an early penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel after being fouled by Patrick Dorgu, but Portugal went ahead when Joachim Andersen headed Bruno Fernandes’ corner into his own net.

Rasmus Kristensen equalized for Denmark just before half-time.

Ronaldo later found the net in the 72nd minute, only for Christian Eriksen to level things again for Denmark moments later.

Trincao’s thunderous strike in the 86th minute forced extra time, where he added his second, and Ramos finished off the scoring.

Before the match, Bernardo Silva was honoured for reaching 100 caps for Portugal. Roberto Martinez’s side will face Germany in the semi-finals, while Denmark shifts focus to World Cup qualifying against Scotland.
