Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev has expressed disappointment with the federal government in the way and manner it is going about the herdsmen and farmers debacle.
The Senator who featured on the Channels Television program State of the Nation alongside the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom said that it is wrong for the federal government to seek to embark on a program like the ruga without carrying the people whose land is to be used along. According to the Senator, “you can not sit in Abuja and bring laws governing land use in the whole of Nigeria unless the Land Use Act of Nigeria is amended, that is not possible” he said.
Senator Jev pointed out that killings by herdsmen has not abated and a lot of our people are still in IDP camps as such sneaking up a program that involves taking their land without at least their consent was not fair and susceptible to different interpretations and inevitably suspicions.
