SAD! Idoma-born NYSC member slumps, dies after football match

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Anthony Ochai, serving at the Government Secondary School, Tsamaye in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, suddenly slumped and died after a football match, the State Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Abubakar, said yesterday.    

He said at the passing out ceremony of 1,411 corps members deployed to the state under the 2016 Batch ‘’A’’ Stream 1 that Anthony was taken to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto after collapsing and was confirmed to have died of heart failure.

The coordinator added that Anthony was from Ugbokolo in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State where he was expected to be buried yesterday.

The coordinator also disclosed that the service year of 10 corps members was extended for abscondment while 10 others were given state merit awards.He added that four corps members were given the chairman’s commendation certificates and 85 others were given commendation letters for outstanding performance.
