Salome Adaidu: Court remands gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi for murder

A Nasarawa State High Court has remanded Timilehin Ajayi, an acclaimed gospel singer, after he was found in possession of the severed head of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

The remand was confirmed in a statement issued by the Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday via X (formerly Twitter).

According to the statement, Ajayi has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody pending his formal arraignment.

The incident came to light when Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, reported that a church member had observed Ajayi acting suspiciously near a river. The member raised the alarm after witnessing Ajayi dispose of a bag into the river. Upon retrieval, the bag was found to contain the severed head of his girlfriend, Adaidu.

Ajayi, who confessed to the crime, claimed he killed Adaidu after allegedly discovering she was cheating on him.

However, the deceased’s family has denied these claims, stating that Adaidu was never in a relationship with Ajayi. They alleged that she was kidnapped and was not visiting him, as earlier reports had suggested.
