Samuel Edoumiekumo, former Committee of Vice-Chancellors Chair is dead

Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, the former Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and immediate past Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, has passed away. Sources close to the family confirmed his demise on Friday night following a brief illness.

Edoumiekumo completed his early education at Akeindenowei Primary School, Toru Angiama, in 1982 and Ajeromi Ifelodun High School, Lagos State, in 1988, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate and West Africa School Certificate, respectively. He held a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and two Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, acquired from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the University of Nsukka.

Following the completion of the former VC, Prof. Humprey Ogoni’s tenure, Edoumiekumo was appointed as the acting VC of NDU by the Bayelsa State governor on May 17, 2017, and later confirmed as the fourth substantive VC on May 2, 2018. Until his demise, he also served as the Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. Further details will be provided in subsequent updates.
