Three Presidential aspirants for the 2023 general election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have met with Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom in continuation of their consultations to pick a consensus candidate ahead of the party primaries.
The aspirants, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Governors Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambuwal of Bauchi and Sokoto states respectively met over an hour with the Benue State Governor behind closed doors at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi to strengthen their campaign for a rancour free contest.
Fielding questions from reporters after their closed door meeting, the former Senate President Saraki said the initiative was borne out of their desire to consult widely among the stakeholders as well as other aspirants to select one of them who would be supported by the rest of the party to rescue Nigeria from the ruins the nation has been taken into by the APC .
Saraki expressed optimism that all the aspirants on the platform of the party have the capacity to govern the country affectively adding that their plans is to meet with all the key stakeholders across the country.
He stated that the challenges facing the country at the moment are such that only the PDP can rescue it, stressing that with the inputs of leaders such as Governor Ortom, the party can get a consensus candidate who would be accepted by all.
Governor Samuel Ortom described the initiative of the three PDP aspirants as a step in the right direction, noting that as a party aspiring to take the country and rebuild it, nothing other than unity among party members is needed for the party to be successful.
Governor Ortom who encouraged them to continue with their plan until success is achieved said due to the abysmal performance of the APC, which has brought the country to its knees, the PDP was the only option that Nigerians were looking up to.
