Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin, the Sarki Sasa of Sasa, Ibadan, in Oyo State’s Akinyele Local Government Area, has been temporarily suspended.
Reports has it that the suspension of Maiyasin was a decision made by the local Hausa community during a Hausawa meeting held on Wednesday. The grounds for his suspension included allegations of insubordination and a lack of respect for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
Additionally, Maiyasin was accused of bestowing chieftaincy titles on individuals without proper consultation with the Sarki Hausawa of Ibadanland.
The meeting was presided over by Alhaji Ali Zungeru, the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadanland, and took place in Sabo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Zungeru expressed concerns that retaining Maiyasin as the District Head had the potential to provoke unrest in the region, and thus, his suspension was deemed necessary.
He further stated that the suspension would remain in effect until the Arewa Community Council in Ibadan reaches a decision on the matter.
Zungeru stated, “During the reign of my elder brother, Shuaibu Dikko III, in 1983, Maiyasin was appointed as a District Head, otherwise known as Baale in Yorubaland for administrative convenience with the hope to maintain peace, sanity, and justice among the Hausa community in Sasa area.”
“In light of this, and to prevent any potential intra and inter-communal conflicts, as we have previously experienced in Sabo-Sagamu, Sabo-Ile-Ife, and recently in Sasa community in Akinyele Local Government, I, Zungeru, the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, and all the members of Arewa traditional institutions, have decided to suspend the appointment of Maiyasin as the District Head of the Hausa community in Sasa area. This is due to insubordination, a lack of respect for the revered position of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and the unauthorized conferring of chieftaincy titles on individuals without consulting the Sarki Hausawa of Ibadanland.”
“The suspension order will remain in effect until the entire Arewa Community Council in Ibadan reaches a decision on the matter.”
