Scarcity of aviation fuel can lead to plane crash – FG warned

Veteran journalist and Public Affairs Commentator, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju has lamented the ongoing scarcity of aviation fuel, otherwise known as JetA1.

IDOMA VOICE reports that the scarcity of the products has forced airliners to hiker ticker fares.

They also threatened to close shops if the development persists.

Reacting to the ugly development, Babajide warned that the development may result in importation of adulterated fuel and may lead to air mishap.

The veteran journalist believes the hike in aviation fuel prices will compromise safety in the airline sector as operators may try to cut corners to meet up with financial obligations.

He aired his views during an interview on TVC and monitored by IDOMA VOICE.

He said, “The aviation sector is one sector that is gasping for air.

“It is one sector that really needs help. The potential is there. The insecurity in the land means more and more people are patronizing the airlines.

“People are now forced to take flight to places they normally don’t travel to by air. The sector really needs to be assisted.

“When Nigeria went into recession the first time under this government, the aviation and the agricultural sectors were doing well. We had positive news from these two sectors.

“Aviation fuel has to be made available for airlines because it could compromise the safety in the sector.

“If adulterated fuel gets sold in jerrycans, we could hear stories of aircraft coming down and nobody wants that to happen.

“We must not land in a situation where people buy aviation fuel in jerrycans, this can bring down an aircraft,” he warned.
