Many people were reportedly injured at Sabon Gida, the headquarters of Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State following a clash between supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday evening during the resettlement day, an annual celebration for Tarok ethnic group in the state.
According to an eyewitness, Lanchang Timpil, the clash broke out when the immediate past chairman of Langtang North, Ubandoma Laven, who is a member of the PDP, arrived at the venue of the occasion and was invited by the Master of Ceremony to the high table.
It was said that the current chairman, Vincent Bulus Venman, an APC member, was not happy with the invitation.
Timpil said the chairman walked up to the immediate past chairman, and “this created tension.”
“A fight ensured between the youths and many people were injured,” he added.
Efforts to reach Laven by Daily Trust proved abortive as he did not pick up calls to his line or reply to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
However, Venman, when contacted, said he could not speak on the phone about the incident.
