Sean “Diddy” Combs placed on suicide watch ahead of trial
Renowned hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center as he awaits trial on serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering.
The 54-year-old was arrested on multiple counts, including transportation for the purpose of prostitution, following federal raids on his properties in Los Angeles and Miami six months ago.
Sources told People that Combs’s mental state has been described as uncertain, prompting the precautionary measure of suicide watch due to the shock of his arrest. According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Corrections, suicide watch involves “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”
Combs has been denied bail and house detention by Manhattan federal Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated that Combs intends to plead not guilty and is committed to fighting for his release.
Despite the circumstances, Agnifilo noted that Combs remains in good spirits and confident. The allegations against him are serious and extensive, with the indictment citing instances of physical and sexual abuse, including striking and dragging women, as well as enlisting his staff to cover up his actions. The indictment also links him to a criminal enterprise involving sex trafficking, forced labor, drug offenses, and bribery.
In the past year, multiple individuals have come forward with lawsuits alleging abuse, though Combs has consistently denied these claims.
