Security men threaten to shoot Otukpo youths for organising protest over killings in Benue South

Youths in Otukpo, Benue State, clashed with security forces on Tuesday during a protest against the escalating cases of killings and kidnappings in the area.

It could be recalled that angry residents took to the streets, blocking major roads and chanting, “We no go gree!” as they demanded urgent action from the government and security agencies to address the worsening insecurity.

The demonstration followed a series of violent attacks that have plagued the community in recent weeks.

In response, security personnel, including soldiers and police officers, were deployed to disperse the protesters. However, the defiant youths stood their ground.

Tensions escalated when the Otukpo Area Commander, addressing the crowd, drew his gun and allegedly threatened to open fire. This move provoked the protesters, who challenged him to shoot.

The standoff threw the community into turmoil as demonstrators insisted on pressing forward with their demands.
