You are all welcomed and a very good evening to you all.
I am extremely honoured to be here today and very grateful for your attendance as we honour the distinguished Senator, my name is Chief Ms Ojoma Odeh the Ogigo-Omebe K’otupko, I am an Independent Consultant Nursing Practitioner and Business woman amongst other things.
I am the Chief host of this occasion and convenor of the Idoma in the diaspora committee UK group and going forward the point person between the Idoma diaspora in the UK and the Distinguished Senator on issues around ASSISTANCE, COLLABORATION, INNOVATION and INITIATIVES for the development and advancement of our people in zone C in particular, the great State of Benue and the Federal republic of Nigeria in general.
Since this occasion is essentially about the VISION OF LEADERSHIP, please let me indulge you in some quotes that drive home the essence of what I mean and in my mind describes the manner of the leader we have here today;
“LEADERSHIP IS A POTENT COMBINATION OF STRATEGY AND CHARACTER. BUT IF YOU MUST BE WITHOUT ONE, BE WITHOUT STRATEGY”
US Army General
“LEADERSHIP IS THE CAPCITY TO TRANSLATE VISION INTO REALITY”
These quotes exemplifies the leadership career of the distinguished Senator from his days as an Education Administrator, award winning Local Government Chairman, Trade Unionist, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is the reason we are very optimistic and hopeful of the development of our people under his watch.
The purpose of today is this;
I-NTERACT WITH OUR LEADER.
D-ISCUSS THE KEY ISSUES AFFECTING OUR PEOPLE.
O-RGANISE PROCEDURES TOWARDS ACTION.
M-ERGE IDEAS AND SOLUTIONS.
A-CTUALISE OUR LEADERS VISION FOR ZONE C.
We are all acutely aware of the poor state of our infrastructural capacity in Zone c and the urgent need (for us all) to begin the process towards repair and rebuilding these important facilities in our communities that are in desperate need for them. I am delighted to say that the process has began and we all look forward to make ourselves available to our leader to assist him in actualising our dreams for our people.
This is not about Government doing everything, It’s about the empowerment of our people here in the diaspora and back home to, become specialised partners in the rebuilding process of our zone and state, especially women and you know what they say.
“WHEN YOU EMPOWER WOMEN, YOU EMPOWER THE WHOLE COMMUNITY’
I and the many talented people within our group are more than willing to be part of your vision for a more prosperous Idomaland. From my conversations with you sir, I am convinced that under your watch, we will have a zone that will be competitive enough to attract the right people and right investments to our beloved land.
Senator Abba Moro on his path made case for the displaced people in Benue South Senatorial district and also called for peace and unity among Benue indigenes especially among those in Zone C in order to actualize the dream of becoming governor of the state one day.
The federal lawmaker said “we need to avoid hate speeches among ourselves, because there are men and women in Benue south with the capacity to become Benue governor, so there is a need for us to work together as a community to achieve community development. I invite you to join me in the struggle so that you won’t complain if we miss 2023.
“As part of my campaign promises, i will stand up for everybody. If you are a key watcher of the Nigerian political situation, you will realize that as soon as there was an attack on Okoklo community in Agatu, i visited the area, i looked at the situation for myself, i access the situation, i came back to the senate an raised a motion displaying the pathetic situation of the displaced people of the Okoklo community of Agatu and urging the senate to take necessary step in order to avert possible future occurrence if such heinous crime in our community and of course for the federal government to provide necessary palliatives that will encourage our people to go back home and live their lives.
“As I’m going back to Nigeria, will go from embassy to embassy, donor communities to solicit for support for our people because the story. Unfortunately, when the United Nations gave room for the construction of one thousand houses, they took it to Guma local government outside the Benue South senatorial district. Even at that, such doesn’t accord with our culture, because the houses were built in a particular place so that people who are displaced all have to go there, therefore, removing the people from their ancestral homes. That is not part of our living standard.
“I promise that we are going to get people to assist us in building houses for our people in their ancestral homes in conformity with our culture and tradition so that the people can go back to their homes. We are going to put together a security architecture to safe guard the lives our people. That’s another promise i intend to fulfill.
One of the problems we have a people is lack of industrial bases to will enable our people expand their productions. We propose that we’ll establish an industrial base in Benue South senatorial district that will give rise to the establishment of processing factories that will process our agricultural produce from yam, casava, soya beans, and all that our found in our place. We definitely take advantage of the industrial revolution that is going on around the world and ensure that our people also benefit.
We are believing that will be able to create an agricultural harvest, the first of its kind as the food basket of Nigeria. I believe that if we should have placed our priorities right, this is what we should have done […..]
The Igbo community in London have done well in appreciating Senator Abba Moro in recognition of his performance when he was the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Board of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Our prayers always for him is for God to continue to grant him good health and more sagacity as he continue to serve the people irrespective of tribe and religion.
We are proud of The People Oriented Senator Abba Moro a Pan African!
