Sen. Abba Moro condemns unrest in Otukpa, Okpokwu; calls for security presence in Benue South

The Senator representing South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has condemned the Tuesday’s attacks in Otukpa, Ogbadibo and Okpoga in Okpokwu Local Government Areas of Benue State.

Report had it that a young lady identified as Mercy Gabriel Anoyi was kidnapped in front of her shop around Ankpa junction in Otukpa.

However, some young men in a bid to rescue the kidnap victim were knocked down by a vehicle while chasing the gunmen and lost their lives in the process.

Similarly, some unidentified gunmen also on Tuesday night invaded Okpoga community in Okpokwu and killed a yet-to-be-identified person and as well kidnapped two children of a police inspector.

Reacting to the ugly developments, Senator Moro described the attacks as cruel, barbaric and height of wickedness.

Senator Moro, who doubles as Senate Committee Vice Chairman on Army and Parliamentary Affairs, called for deployment of security agencies into the area; to forestall further attacks.

While demanding for a thorough investigation into the dastardly acts, senator Moro also called on residents of the affected areas to remain calm and law-abiding.

He said, “I am saddened over the news coming in from Otukpa in Ogbadibo and Okpoga in Okpokwu local government areas of Benue State.

“This is cruel, barbaric and height of wickedness that must be condemned by all and sundry in its entirety.

“We call on the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to deploy their personnel to the affected areas to bring the situation under control.

“We also demand a thorough investigation into the attacks, which led to the death of five persons and subsequent abduction of three others in the aforementioned areas.

“We call on our people to remain calm and law-abiding as no stone would be left unturned in making sure that those behind these wicked acts are brought to book.

“We warn those behind these constant unrests in Benue South to take a new leaf as nemesis would catch up with them in no distant time.”

He also commiserated with the deceased families as well as the good people of Okpokwu and Ogbadibo over the unfortunate incidents, while praying for the repose of the departed souls.
