Senate confirms five new INEC RECs

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of five Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The confirmation took place during Wednesday’s plenary session following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on INEC, chaired by Senator Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the confirmed RECs are Umar Garba (Kano), Sa’ad Idris (Bauchi), Chukwemeka Ibeziako (Anambra), Umar Mukhtar (Borno), and Dr. Johnson Sinkiem (Bayelsa).
Presenting the committee’s report, Lalong stated that the nominees were thoroughly screened, and their qualifications, professional experience, and character were carefully evaluated.
He said each nominee provided satisfactory responses to the committee’s questions and met the requirements for the position.
“After thoroughly examining their credentials, career achievements, and overall integrity, the committee recommends the confirmation of all five nominees,” Lalong told the Senate.
