Senate screens new CBN governor Yemi Cardoso, deputies

The Senate has commenced the scrutiny of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso for the role of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Accompanying Cardoso in the screening process are four nominees for the position of CBN Deputy Governor: Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

During the session where Senators posed questions, Cardoso affirmed his preparedness to enact the provisions of the 2023 Finance Act and address the various monetary and economic challenges confronting the nation.

It’s worth noting that President Bola Tinubu had previously endorsed Cardoso’s nomination as the prospective CBN Governor, pending approval from the Senate.
