Senate sets date for ministerial nominee screening

The Senate is set to begin the screening process for the 28 ministerial nominees put forward by President Bola Tinubu, starting next Monday. Sen. Adeyemi Adaramodu, the spokesperson of the Senate, made this announcement after the list of nominees was read in the upper chamber on Thursday.

Although the Senate does not usually hold sessions on Mondays, they have suspended their rules to prioritize this national duty. Adaramodu assured that the screening process would be extensive, as the lawmakers are well aware of the high expectations placed on those who will assist President Bola Tinubu in fulfilling his mandate and the constitution.

He emphasized that the Senate would carefully examine the character, personality, and experiences of each nominee. They believe that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) formed after the screening would play a crucial role in revitalizing Nigeria’s economy.

Adaramodu stressed that mere impressive resumes would not be enough for the screening. The Senate would also assess the nominees’ character and mental ability to ensure they can effectively contribute to Nigeria’s success.

The spokesperson made it clear that there would be no time allocation for any nominee during the screening process. Each nominee would be given the necessary time for a thorough evaluation, even if it takes several hours or a whole day.

Addressing concerns about nominees with EFCC cases, Adaramodu stated that all nominees had already undergone security screening checks by the executive. However, if any red flags are raised, the Senate will investigate further to ensure Nigerians are not disappointed.

With the screening scheduled to begin on Monday, the annual recess of the National Assembly, originally set to begin on Thursday, has been postponed until after the exercise.
