One Idoma Legislator who has not sat down since he started his first tenure is Senator Abba Moro. Undoubtedly, Patrick Moro has always been a man full of energy. His steps have always been brisk and sharp. Up till now, Comrade Senator Abba Patrick Moro walks easily ahead of those walking with him and moves like a car with faulty breaks, unable to stop at the envisaged point due to momentum.
The power in Abba Moro’s speeches are now legendary, just as his eloquence, even when delivered in the Idoma language. So energy has never been a missing item in Senator Moro’s constitution. Yet, any keen observer of social events must wonder the source of his present high mobility level. From Abuja, to Makurdi, to his Constituency, Comrade Senator Moro has attended as many as five events in a single day before. At first the general belief was that he was preparing for governorship. But then a personal statement from him to the contrary has neither slowed him down nor narrowed his space.
So far, Senator Abba Patrick Moro has been one of the most active in the Red Chambers in terms of bills presentation, motions, and coherent legislative debates. Senate records are there to back this assertion. His oversight functions have also been very good. At the Constituency, probably the largest in Nigeria, spanning a whooping nine large Local Government Areas, Senator Moro’s projects are everywhere. Again, records abound. His Constituency Projects will be a story for another day.
In all the programs so far initiated and executed by Senator Abba Patrick Moro, the recent one on Digital Skills Training and provision of laptops to attendees is most exemplary, unique, and most developmentally inclined. The greatest thing that can happen to any community in the present globalized world is for the youths of that community to be properly situated on the global information superhighway. This is what Senator Moro has attempted to do. He has successfully led the proverbial Horse to the proverbial River. It is now left to the Horse, to drink or not to drink.
Being linked to the global information superhighway, with your laptop, puts you in an endless pool where all the informations and data regarding whatever one wants in life are available. Benue South youths who are beneficiaries of Senator Abba Moro’s Digital Skills Training should have no more excuse to be unemployed. All they need now is to get on the Internet, browse and connect to appropriate sites where they can engage themselves in profitable ventures ranging from online Marketing; Accounting, Insurance, and other financial services; Database Management; Software Engineering; Electronics/Telecoms Power Systems Engineering; to Life Science Engineering; Medical Support Services like Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technology; Project Management; Tourism and Hospitality Management; Editorial/Proof Reading; Bi-Lingual Web Solutions Providers; Research and Documentation Service Providers; etc, etc.
Other Benue South politicians, as well as good spirited individuals and organizations, should borrow a leaf from Distinguished Senator Abba Patrick Moro and initiate programs aimed at youth development. This is one sure way to lift the standard of living of the entire populace.
