The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Abba Moro, on Wednesday, received the INTEGRITY ICON OF NIGERIA (I.I.O.N) award from an organization called Centre For Ethics And Self Value Orientation (CESVO).
The award is in recognition of Senator Moro’s commitment to community service, integrity, national interest, due process compliance, transparent and accountable leadership, innovativeness and emotional intelligence, efficiency on the floor of the Senate, quality of Bills and Motions sponsored, quality assurance in constituency projects implementation and commitment to global poverty and hunger reduction in Benue South.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Executive Director of the organization, Ethicist (Prince) Salih Musa Yakubu, eulogized Senator Moro and praised his developmental strides within a short time in office. He said his organization had been keeping the Senator’s track records right from when he served as Minister of interior, where he introduced reforms and policies that drastically reduced corruption to the barest minimum.
He said the Senator, as an ambassador of ethics and conscience, was found worthy by the Board of Trustees and management of CESVO to be considered for the honorific title of I.I.O.N.
His words, “Your passionate resolve to work for a new nation anchored on integrity, value leadership and ethical uprightness is highly commendable after our secret independent assessment exercise conducted without your knowledge.
“Your ethical leadership role in the Senate has earned you this most cherished honorific title exclusively reserved for the incorruptible global citizens of which you were discovered to be one. We enjoin you to always make integrity your watchword and join us in our collective quest to rid Nigeria of corruption and mis-governance at all levels.”
In his acceptance speech, Senator Moro thanked the group for finding him worthy of the recognition. He said he was humbled by their kind words and complement of his modest achievements so far
His words, “I’m grateful to you and your organization for considering me for this recognition.
“I belong to the class of politicians who entered politics by conviction that I can make a difference and make lives better for my people, and not for any personal gains.
“While not laying claim to being a perfect person, I have promised myself and God that anywhere I find myself, I will strive to do the best I can to improve on the living standard of the people.
“I will partner with you on the crusade to stamp out corruption from our society. I have been in the forefront of the fight against corruption because I believe that a corruption-free society is the society that grows and develops for the good of the people.
“I thank you for coming.”
In addition to the Title bestowed on the Senator, he was also presented a CORPORATE CERTIFICATE OF CREDENCE, having successfully passed the corporate performance integrity test amongst top (30) highly rated most ethically responsible/least corrupt Senatorial District offices in Nigeria and emerged 1ST position in North Central and 5TH position in Nigeria.
