Distinguished Senator Abba Moro, today, visited Ogbadibo and Okpokwu communities affected by the windstorm that ravaged parts of the two local government areas on Thursday night.
Accompanied by Hon. Anthony Agom, member representing Okpokwu State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, the Senator was received in Otukpa, the headquarters of Ogbadibo LGA, by the Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Joseph Ebije; the Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Vincent Amuche; the Ogbadibo NUT Chairman, Comrade Sule Ekele; the Senator’s Coordinator in the LGA, Hon. Imoni Abah, and other dignitaries.
Taking the Senator and his entourage round the damaged buildings, the NUT Chairman, Comrade Sule Ekele, said the windstorm brought down so many School buildings, Churches, police station, masts, electric poles and private buildings in the community.
At the LEA Primary School, Obu 1, where almost all the blocks of classrooms were destroyed, the Senator expressed shock at the level of destruction by the windstorm. He said he would support the immediate roofing of some classrooms to ameliorate the pains of pupils and teachers. He promised to have the damaged buildings across the affected communities captured in the 2022 national budget even as he’s already getting the relevant government agencies to come in and support the rebuilding of all the affected public buildings.
Villages in Otukpa badly affected include Obu Branch, Orido, Abo, Adum, Aikwu and Odoba. In those villages, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
From Ogbadibo, Senator Moro and his team moved to Olaidu, Okpaelota and Eke Ajide, all in Okpokwu Local Government Area, where he inspected the damages. He said the impact of the windstorm was massive, stating that he came to see things for himself to have a clearer picture of the incident. He condoled with those affected and promised to move a motion on the floor of the Senate when plenary resumes, to formally draw the attention of the Senate and the Executive Council to the wanton destruction of properties caused by the windstorm in the affected communities.
