The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, Tuesday, received a pressure group known as Idoma Wives and Daughters Association (IWADA) in his National Assembly office.
The group, headed by Dr Serah Ogah-Aduwari, was in the Senator’s office to seek his support for the actualization of their set out goals.
While presenting the agenda of the group to the Senator, the spokesperson, Mrs Vera Okwosa, said IWADA had a strong passion for the development of Idomaland. She said they were out to partner and collaborate with like-minds such as Senator Moro to contribute to the socio-economic development of the land.
Her words, “We are not the normal Idoma meeting that we all know, our group is out to correct the wrong narratives about Idoma land. Because of your undying love for the Idoma people, which you have shown repeatedly, we are here to partner and collaborate with you to move our land to the next level of development.
“On our part, we have been trying to impact positively on our people through provision of relief materials in times of crisis, like the Covid-19 pandemic, training of younger ones, etc. Right now, we are taking a step further. We are troubled by the lack of water in Idoma land. There’s no community in the land that enjoys water. This is worrisome and calls for deliberate and collective efforts of all sons and daughters of the land to tackle.
“We know that you are a good man who’s so passionate about our land, which is why we are here to rub minds with you on how you can assist us in driving this passion of ours that’s geared towards the development of our land.
“Our people are in dire need of help, it’s good that we all come together and help them.”
The President, Dr Serah Ogah-Aduwari, wrapping up what the spokesperson said, stated that Idoma land had illustrious sons and daughters who are doing so well in their various endeavors, but that their impacts are not being felt that much at home.
She said that they, the women, took it upon themselves to work with all those who genuinely mean well for Idoma land, an attitude found in the Distinguished Senator, to bring home the needed development.
She said their plan for the year included provision of boreholes for some communities and renovation of school buildings across the land. She said with the meeting with the Senator, they believed their action plan would come to fruition, considering his pro-people policies.
The women decried the lack of unity and cohesion amongst the illustrious sons of Idoma land, they appealed for unity of purpose for the good of the land.
In his response, Senator Moro thanked the women for the visit. He said he didn’t join politics for any personal gains but to make a difference, for the good of the people. He said his mission on earth was to make people happy, and that he won’t depart from that route.
He commended the women for coming together to change the ugly narrative about Idomaland. He promised to work with them to move the land forward. The Senator intimated his guests of his modest achievements so far and the things in the pipeline for the good people of Benue South Senatorial District.
He said that his desire for Benue South is a land that has uninterrupted water supply to all homes, motorable roads in all villages, functional healthcare centres in all communities, good schools for our children, etc, but that he had limited resources at his disposal, being a Senator.
He said, “I know the pains and needs of our people, because I live with them. I always wish I could do everything for them at once, but you know that I don’t have any pool of funds that I can fetch from.
“I promise I will never be found lacking when it comes to nominating (constituency) projects to be captured in our budget. I will pursue that vigorously and ensure that whatever is due to us gets to us and executed according to specification.
“I’m aware of the water challenge in Benue South and I’m tackling the challenge in my own little way with the rising number of boreholes I’m drilling across the Senatorial District. I also intend to resuscitate the dams in the Senatorial District in 2023, to improve water supply to the land.
“I’m not in politics to satisfy myself but to serve and satisfy the people and this I’m committed to doing within the period I’m going to spend here in the Senate.
“I thank you for coming.”
