The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has vowed to do all within his powers to ensure that the late Ogah Jumbo Ochigbo, a former Civil Defense personnel believed to have been murdered by men of the Nigeria Police gets justice even in his grave.
Mr. Jumbo, an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was reportedly brutalized to death in presence of his wife and kids on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in Nyanya, Abuja by men of the Nigeria Police Force, said to be on duty controlling traffic.
However, the Nigeria Police, through the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba swiftly dispelled it, saying the late Jumbo slumped after driving himself to Nyanya Police station.
Meanwhile, an the autopsy conducted at the Maitama General Hospital on March 26, 2019 by 3 renowned Pathologists, one of whom represented the Nigeria Police Force, the report said, late Jumbo died as a result of “multiple skin and soft tissue injuries, blunt force injury to the head and cerebral oedema” suffered during the police brutality.
A copy of the autopsy report and the coroner’s ordinances obtained by this newspaper also confirmed that, “there was no natural disease in the body to sufficiently explain this sudden death”, as being peddled by the Police authority.
His remains were laid to rest during the weekend in his Akpegede country home, Otukpo LGA of Benue State.
Speaking during the burial, the Senator faulted the earlier claims put out by the Nigeria Police that the deceased died a natural death.
Senator Moro, who was represented at the burial by Barrister Paul Edeh of One Idoma Initiative, described the death of the officer as very sad and unfortunate.
He said, “The Distinguished Senator asked me to on his behalf commiserate with the immediate family and the extended family of the deceased over the unfortunate loss.
“No one should for whatever reason experience such a loss.
“What makes this sad is the fact that he died as a result of the extra-judicial killings in the hands of people from a sister agency– the Nigeria Police Force.
“In actual fact, the Nigeria Police and Civil Defence were established to protect citizens and enforce laws; but where one begins to fight the other to the extent of beating to death, it leaves a lot to be desired. Certainly, that is not why the law established the Nigeria Police.
“I know Ogah Jumbo personally and he was such a hard-working gentleman.
“The initial story that was made public to the effect that he died a natural death might not be true. This is because the result of the autopsy has revealed the real fact on what led to the death of this promising family man.
“As the senator representing Benue South, which is the constituency of the deceased, I will do all within my powers to make sure he gets justice even in his grave.”
The Senator regretted his absence due to lack of information on the burial arrangement which he only received on the day of the burial.
He, however, promised to personally visit the family in no distant time.
