Grammy-nominated afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has departed from Nigeria just two days after being released from prison.
Following his detention at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, on charges of assaulting a police officer captured in a viral video, Kuti was granted bail on Tuesday after spending eight days behind bars.
On Wednesday, the singer appeared in court for his trial at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos. However, due to the absence of the magistrate, the proceedings were adjourned to July 3, 2023.
Seun Kuti took to his Instastory on Thursday to announce that he was en route to Switzerland, where he will kick off his Europe tour.
The musician’s swift departure for his scheduled tour marks a quick return to his musical endeavors following his recent legal troubles. Seun Kuti’s talent and contribution to the afrobeat genre have earned him international recognition, including multiple Grammy nominations.
Sharing a picture of himself in a plane, he wrote, “Euro tour kicks off tonight in Zurich.”
