No fewer than 500 pensioners have been reported dead in Benue State over the refusal of the state government to pay them their N25bn pension arrears and gratuities.
IDOMA VOICE reports that the senior citizens have relocated from their respective houses to the gate of the government house in Makurdi to press home their demands.
The governor, however, paid deaf ears to their cries.
Addressing the pensioners at the prayer session, their Leader, Mr. Peter Ikyado, said they were not tired and would continue to sleep at the gate until paid.
Ikyado urged them to be steadfast and pray fervently.
He earlier told newsmen that over 500 pensioners in the state had died due to lack of food and proper medication.
