If film buffs were to compile a list of 20 fast-rising actresses that will be bankable in the nearest future in Nollywood, Sharon Ooja Egwurube will not escape their spotlight. In recent years, she has surreptitiously moved to the front row in Nollywood, and her persona now wears a bright halo. Her artistry in role interpretation is evident at a glance.
It is, therefore, not surprising that her career has been on the upswing since she appeared in Skinny Girl in Transit, a comedy web series by Ndani TV, with her impressive performance in the series unlocking the door to lead roles in Nollywood. It bears repeating that Ooja is not one of Tinseltown newcomers: she made her entry years back in the television series, Gidi Up. But her career got a boost following her superb role as Shalewa in Skinny Girl in Transit.
She also acted in Oloture, an Ebonylife production, where she played the lead role. Her filmography includes Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys, Omoni Oboli’s Mums at War, Funke Akindele’s Jenifa’s Diary, Lara and the Beat, From Lagos with Love, and DSTV Africa Magic’s Flatmates.
Now the 411: The screen goddess who has dazzled in several top-of-the-chart flicks, is a native of Idoma in Benue State, though born in Kaduna State and bred in Plateau State´s capital city of Jos. Ooja grew up in a family of four children.
She attended Kings and Queens School, Jos, Regina Pacis Secondary School, Garki II, Abuja, St. Louis Girls’ College, Jos and Houdegbe North American University in Cotonou, The Republic of Benin, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.
