Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially launched the state-of-the-art MSME Clinics Fashion & ICT Hubs in Makurdi, Benue State, saying it is the beginning of greater things under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Vice President expressed optimism that the new hub will meet international standards and potentially create approximately 48,000 jobs annually in the state. During the commissioning on Tuesday, he emphasized that the swift establishment of the hub, following the launch of the MSMEs Clinic earlier this year, demonstrates the administration’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and delivering on its promises.
Shettima explained that the Benue Fashion & ICT Hub, one of the largest ever commissioned by the federal government, aims to provide a robust environment for MSMEs. The hub is equipped with over 200 pieces of advanced fashion manufacturing equipment and more than 100 ICT devices, supporting a range of functions from production to training. It is also designed to facilitate direct interaction between MSMEs and federal agencies through a dedicated one-stop shop, streamlining regulatory processes.
The Vice President reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to collaborating with state governments and creating opportunities that meet national demands. He noted that MSMEs are crucial for economic stability and growth, especially during this period of economic transition.
Addressing the challenges faced by MSMEs, Shettima highlighted that the administration is actively providing interventions like the Benue Fashion Hub to support various industries. Future plans include establishing additional hubs for sectors such as mechanics, printing, barbering, shoemaking, and wellness.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia praised the federal government and Vice President Shettima for their support and commitment. He described the hub as a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda, aimed at promoting creativity, innovation, and employment in the state.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Joseph Utsev, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, also expressed gratitude for the federal government’s initiatives, which they believe will significantly impact the lives of Nigerians.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on MSMEs, Mr. Adekunle-Johnson, added that the Benue Fashion and ICT Hub is the largest of its kind and has the potential for further expansion based on state needs. He noted that under the Tinubu administration, five projects have been commissioned, with eight more expected by the end of 2024.
