Shocker as Ortom emerges best governor on security despite harvest of deaths in Benue
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has been nominated as Governor of the Year 2017 on Security by Independent Newspapers.
The letter conveying the decision of the Board of Editors and Management of Independent Newspapers Limited, said the organization is convinced by the Governor’s unequalled achievements in security of lives and property.
The award is also in recognition of the Ortom administration’s enactment and implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, which has received national and international acceptance.
It read in parts: “Your Excellency, the selection committee for the award considered you worthy of the conferment of the prestigious award taking into cognisance your unrelenting efforts in tackling the security challenges in Benue State since your assumption of office in 2015.
“The award is in recognition of the commitment of your administration to overcome the mounting challenges of insecurity which have constituted grave distraction for governance in Benue State.
“By nominating you for the award, we seek to applaud your efforts at restoring hope and rebuilding confidence across diverse groups and communities torn apart by violence in Benue State.”
The letter of nomination was signed by Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Independent Newspapers Limited.
The award will be presented to Governor Ortom at a historic event scheduled for February 10, 2018 in Lagos.
