Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has officially addressed Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, requesting support for the group’s planned Biafra declaration convention.
Ekpa shared on his official X account that the letter of intent, presented to President Stubb on Monday, outlines the proposed Biafra Independence Declaration as a potential step towards peace in Nigeria and the wider Sahel region.
“The letter of intent informed the Finland President to support the Biafra Independence Declaration because it is a recipe for peace in the Sahel Region,” Ekpa stated.
The letter also explained the mission and goals of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, highlighting its intention to establish an internationally recognized referendum on Biafra’s independence, scheduled for the final week of November 2024. It emphasized Biafra’s historical recognition by five United Nations member states during previous attempts for independence.
Ekpa has announced that from November 29 to December 3, 2024, a convention in Finland will formally declare Biafra’s independence.
This development comes amid ongoing calls for Biafra’s independence, a movement that has seen increased momentum in recent years. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been detained since 2021, despite numerous appeals from Igbo leaders seeking his release.
