Singer Lekan Osifeso Junior, known as Lojay, recently shared that contrary to popular belief, coming from a wealthy background doesn’t offer an advantage in the music industry. He argued that, if anything, it can make success more challenging, as Nigerians often “rich-shame” individuals from affluent families.
In an interview with City 105.1 FM in Lagos, the “Monalisa” singer explained that many assume wealthy artists don’t need support. “Rich kids don’t have an edge. They come into the industry on the back foot, as people assume they’re already well-off,” he noted.
When asked if he had experienced this bias, Lojay responded confidently, “I’m undeniably talented. Let them challenge me on the mic. My family’s wealth hasn’t influenced my career. If anything, it’s been a disadvantage.” He added that his success has been entirely talent-driven, without any “payola” or influence from his background.
