A devastating incident unfolded in the heart of Kabong Central Community, situated within the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where a suspected electrical explosion resulted in the loss of six lives. The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 2 am, and two individuals sustained critical injuries as well.
The explosion, believed to have originated from a malfunctioning transformer, swiftly ignited a fierce fire in the immediate vicinity. Eyewitnesses reported that the blast sent shockwaves throughout the area, plunging residents into widespread panic and fear. Additionally, numerous shops in the vicinity were razed to the ground, with losses estimated to be in the millions of naira.
Confirming the incident, DSP Alfred Alabo, the Spokesman of the State Police Command, relayed, “Yes, we are aware of the incident at Kabong Central, which claimed the lives of six people and left two critically injured. One of the injured persons is currently receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, while the other is undergoing treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. As I speak to you, I have visited the family of the deceased on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Julius Alawari, to offer our condolences.
