Six killed, thousands displaced as flood hits Adamawa

A devastating flood has swept through several communities in Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State, leaving significant destruction in its wake.

The disaster has reportedly claimed six lives, displaced over 2,000 people, and destroyed numerous homes, farmlands, and bridges.

Among the hardest-hit areas are Kichinga, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, as well as the communities of Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam.

In an interview with reporters, Madagali LGC Executive Chairman, Hon. Simon Musa, confirmed the incident, noting that some of the affected communities had never before experienced such a calamity.

He revealed that thousands of displaced individuals are currently seeking shelter in 10 temporary camps that have been set up.

Musa explained that the flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall on the Mandara mountain, leading to severe erosion and extensive damage to the Shuwa Bridge, houses, food supplies, and farmlands.

He made an urgent appeal to the federal and state governments, as well as humanitarian agencies, to provide immediate assistance to the affected communities.

The Village Head of Shuwa, Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi, described the situation as “unfortunate and tragic,” urging the government to intervene and offer support to those impacted by the disaster.
