Six out of 24 abducted Federal University Gusau students rescued in Zamfara

Six out of the 24 students abducted from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State on Friday have been successfully rescued, as reported by Channels Television.

A reliable military source close to Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in Gusau, confirmed this development. Brigadier General Sani Ahmed is currently leading the operation in collaboration with other security agencies within the forest area near Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The source further stated that numerous bandits were neutralized during the ongoing operation, and a significant number of weapons were recovered.

Earlier, an anonymous student from the university had disclosed that the attack primarily targeted female students, resulting in the abduction of over 24 students during the assault.

A resident of Sabon-Gida, Nazeer Sabon-Gida, corroborated the invasion, narrating that the gunmen attacked the community around 3 am, firing shots indiscriminately and targeting three student hostels. The bandits took away all the students present in the hostels.

In a related update, the Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the student abductions. The spokesperson for the command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, stated over a phone conversation on Friday that the exact number of abducted students is yet to be confirmed, but assured ongoing efforts in a rescue operation.
