The Chief Executive of SMEFUNDS, Femi Oye, has called for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the food sector to tackle hunger, waste, and sustainability challenges.

Oye emphasized that AI can optimize production, enhance quality control, reduce waste, and improve food safety. With a growing population, he stressed the need for sustainable food systems, highlighting AI’s role in minimizing environmental impact and bolstering food security.

He also urged investment in AI education for the food sector and the creation of regulatory frameworks to encourage innovation while maintaining safety standards.

Oye revealed that SMEFUNDS is actively incorporating AI in its operations, from kitchen management to inventory tracking. The organization is working with food industry operators to implement AI-powered kitchen technologies, including Internet of Things (IoT) systems for real-time equipment monitoring.

Additionally, SMEFUNDS has launched an AI-driven kitchen application, Kike AI, designed to help households monitor gas usage and receive alerts before depletion. The app also aims to bridge the digital gap, empowering women and marginalized communities by providing a platform for showcasing culinary talents.

Oye envisions Kike AI as a tool for advancing food tourism, allowing tourists to discover authentic local dishes and connect with featured chefs and restaurants.
