Soldiers exchange gunfire with bandits, kill one, arrest two in Benue
The Nigerian Army has killed an armed bandit and arrested two others at Karu Village and Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, North Central region of Nigeria.
The Operation at Karu village was conducted by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE on December 21, following credible Intelligence on the presence of some armed bandits operating around Anguwa-Onmbaagbu general area in the State.
The bandits were linked to a recent killing of a Makurdi based lawyer and his wife.
The gallant soldiers swiftly mobilized to the target area where they had contact and engaged the criminals in fierce gunfight.
During the encounter, the soldiers overwhelmed the bandits and killed one of them, while others fled with various degrees of gunshot wounds.
An AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 4 rounds of 7.62mm Special Ammunition were recovered from the assailants.
Similarly, on the same day, soldiers deployed in Benue and Taraba State carried out raid
operation on the identified hideout of the bandits at Abako Village.
The raid operation was conducted following intelligence reports on activities of remnants of the late Gana’s militia gangs in parts of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
While conducting a thorough combing of the hideout, the soldiers arrested 2 of the armed bandits with their arms.
Meanwhile, the arrested bandits have been handed over to the relevant prosecuting agency for further action.
