Sorry state of IDPs camp in Benue where people sleep on bare floor, drink from mud

Following the intensified onslaught on Benue communities since 2018 when over 73 villagers were murdered in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of the state by suspected herdsmen, most of the displaced persons who were sacked from their ancestral homes were given what was supposed to be a rehabilitation center and temporary homes known as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps at the outskirt of Makurdi, the state Capital.

However, after playing politics with donations and show of politically-inspired philanthropic gestures to the victims initially, individuals, NGOs and government alike seem to have abandoned the internally displayed persons to their fates.

Recall that donations in cash and items were made running into millions to carter for the Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs), but a recent visit to the IDPs camp by IDOMA VOICE showed that there are no good shelter, mattresses, drinkable water for the IDPs.
There is also a loud shortage of food in the camp.

Our correspondent observed that some of the IDPs have given birth to children at the camp and the population is fast escalating.

The IDPs called on the Benue State government, the Federal government, well meaning individuals, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), international bodies to come to their aid, lamenting that they have been abandoned.
