The Spanish government has called for transparency and swift action from the country’s football federation regarding an incident involving Luis Rubiales, the president of the federation. Rubiales has faced heavy criticism for kissing Spain player Jenni Hermoso on the lips following her team’s victory in the Women’s World Cup final against England in Sydney.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday and initiated an internal investigation into the incident. Pressure has been mounting for the federation to take appropriate action against Rubiales.

Spain’s Secretary of State for Sports, José Manuel Franco, stated that the responsible parties should engage in discussions with the individuals involved and generate a transparent and urgent report on the matter. He emphasized that if transparency is not maintained, additional measures may be taken.

Rubiales, 46, initially defended his actions but later apologized. Despite the apology, criticism of his behavior has persisted. Even Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed that Rubiales’ apology was inadequate in addressing the situation.
