Stakeholders urge FG to tackle on insecurity and youth exclusiveness

Stakeholders from both the private and public sectors have underscored the importance of the government’s intervention in addressing critical issues such as insecurity, infrastructure gaps, and the need for greater youth inclusiveness. These factors are seen as essential for bolstering the nation’s economy.

The gathering, organized by Africa Soft Power in collaboration with the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, and African Women on Board, focused on the interconnectedness of digital platforms, technology adoption, youth empowerment, and creative entrepreneurship.

Nkiru Balonwu, Founder and Creative Director of Africa Soft Power, highlighted the urgency of including young people and women in all aspects of leadership. Drawing examples from various social movements, she emphasized the consequences of neglecting youth and women’s inclusion and security, citing events like #endsars and #Congoisbleeding.

Continuing these discussions is crucial to shed light on the immense opportunities that lie within Africa’s soft power, which is deeply rooted in its rich culture and youthful population, propelling the continent towards growth and progress.

The rise of digital media and technological advancements have provided African youth with platforms to showcase their talents, shape their stories, and excel in diverse industries. Commitment to these conversations is vital to harness the continent’s potential for growth effectively, capitalizing on its youthful demographic dividend.

Akintunde Oyebode, Commissioner of Finance & Economic Development, Ekiti State, stressed that security issues cannot be resolved without ensuring fairness and justice. The absence of consequences often drives crime in society, making it essential to strengthen state capacity to respond effectively to social challenges. The multifaceted nature of security challenges, including kidnappings and drug problems in various regions, necessitates a comprehensive approach from the government.
